Public EducationHospice Wellington is committed to providing relevant and timely educational opportunities to the Guelph and Wellington County communities. Volunteer Training Course:Each Spring and Fall, Hospice Wellington offers a thirteen-week volunteer training course, which is open to the public. The course, entitled "Insights into Terminal Illness, Grief and Bereavement", introduces individuals to such topics as the history and principles of hospice palliative care, the emotional and psychological issues of death and dying, disease and pain management and exploring the difficult feelings of the bereaved. The course leads to a better understanding of the emotional and physical needs of the terminally ill, their primary caregivers and of the bereaved. Social workers, nurses, physicians, clergy and other community professionals facilitate the course. The course meets the Hospice Association of Ontario standards. The next Volunteer Training session starts March 2006. Fee: $100.00 and $75.00 for those over 55 years. Ongoing Volunteer Training and SupportHospice Wellington is committed to providing educational and support opportunities for Hospice volunteers. Client Volunteer Support Meetings are scheduled for each month. Library and Speakers Bureau:Hospice Wellington has a large selection of books, video and audiotapes that are available to the community. The library offers a wide range of resources including books for children and youth. The library is located at the Hospice Wellness Centre and is open from 9 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. A lending library and speakers bureau is also available at the Mount Forest office. The lending period is three weeks and we ask that you sign out all books. There is no cost to borrow books. Hospice Wellington can provide a speakers who will provide information around a variety of topics tailored to the needs of your organization or group. A hospice exhibit is also available. Workshops:A variety of workshops are planned on a regular basis for volunteers and members of the community. Professionals in palliative care, bereavement, communication, health care and other specializations offer information and discussion on current trends in hospice and bereavement care.
