Bereavement Support
One-to-one Support
The initial period of grief can be overwhelming, and it is during this time that one-to-one support may be helpful. Hospice volunteers offer support on a casual as-needed basis or according to a more structured format with regular visits.
Group Support
Three to six months after their loss, individuals may be ready to join a Support Group. A Support Group is a structured, safe place in which individuals can be with and explore their grief. The Support Groups are not intended to be a form of therapy but of support. They have been very helpful to many individuals.
Each group is held one evening or afternoon a week for six weeks with a follow-up gathering a month after the last session. For those individuals grieving a loss due to suicide, the Support Group runs for eight weeks. Groups vary in number but generally do not exceed 10 people.
Start dates for Support Groups depend on the number of individuals registered and the availability of group leaders.
Hospice Wellington is currently taking registration for the following Grief Support Groups:
- Mixed Adult
- Men Only
- Children’s (ages 6-12)
- Teen (ages 13-17)
- Children’s Anticipatory Grief (ages 6-16)

Monthly "Drop-In" Grief Support
A "drop-in" Grief Support Group is offered at the Mount Forest office. The group offers a casual and unstructured opportunity for people to share issues of concern around the loss of a loved one. All are welcome.
The group meets the last Thursday of each month from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Mount Forest office.
