Community Authors Making A Difference

Hospice Wellington was recently given a wonderful donation of $1,359 to put towards their essential services and programming.  The funds were raised via proceeds from book sales from authors Lisa Browning and Margaret Brix.

You Are Not Alone” is an impactful collection of 52 stories of hope compiled by Lisa Browning.  The stories are from writers who have shared their own personal experiences as a gift to help those dealing a life-limiting illness or that are experiencing grief.  These personal stories are impactful moments that can help ease, educate and comfort its readers.

Grampa’s Butterfly” is a beautiful children’s book written by Margaret Brix.  Based upon the loss of her own father, this story of the butterfly was a gift to her own children to help them cope with their sense of loss and grief.  It is a true tale of love and kindness that inspires people to become the most beautiful butterfly possible.  

Hospice Wellington offers exceptional care to people living with a life-limiting illness, and support to individuals and families that are experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one. Hospice Wellington is extremely grateful towards our community for their efforts in fundraising and events.  They help us to raise much-needed funds for our 10-bed residence and all of our supportive programming and services for those needing our services here in Guelph and Wellington County. Our care is warm, skilled and compassionate, and is available both in our residence and in the community.

Hospice Wellington’s annual fundraising walk, “Walk in the Park” presented by Scotiabank took place on Friday, June 9th at beautiful Royal City Park in Guelph.

The event began with a free barbecue for participants prepared by Borealis Grille & Bar with the Walk in the Park scheduled to begin at 7pm. This evening event was a strong community family-friendly event that helped generate awareness for Hospice Wellington along with over $29,700 in net profits which will go towards programming and services for those living with a life-limiting illness, and to support individuals and families that are experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one.

There were plenty of activities for families and friends to enjoy including children’s activities from the City of Guelph, the Guelph Firefighters, our Community Weave and creations from our Youth Legacy Project along with our Therapy Tent.

Special shout out to our Top Fundraiser Meghan Weiler and the members of Team Meghan who raised the most money as a team!  Over $6,300 was raised by this team alone!  They won some of the fundraising prizes including the train tickets from VIA Rail and the Pizza Party/Brewery Tour from Domino’s and Wellington’s Brewery.

Guests enjoyed this wonderful event created by Valentini Hair Design’s Derrick Rutherford and Julio Rodriguez. The Runway show featured amazing boutiques and retailers including Style on the Go, IF.. Footwear Boutique, The Patch, Pod, Kennedy Paul, La Bottega, Art of Denim and Sidonio’s.

The money raised from this event will help Hospice Wellington continue to provide compassionate care for those that need it most, whether it is in the home setting or at our residence. It will also allow us to continue to provide our supportive programs and services such as our Volunteer one-on-one companioning, Wellness Programs, Art Therapy and Grief & Bereavement services.
